Video content is one of the best ways to increase customer engagement. Creating high quality videos for your brand may seem daunting, so here are some quick tips you can use right away to get great results! By the end of this blog, you’ll have several new techniques to utilize to make the video content for your brand more engaging.
The best filmmaking advice I, MacGregor Merritt, lead graphic designer at Krush Digital, ever received is to move your camera in interesting and unexpected ways while filming. People love to see things from unusual perspectives. This could mean getting a close-up shot of your product in operation, lowering the camera to mimic a child’s point of view, or even mounting the camera to a drone for exciting aerial video.
One of my favorite ways to add interest to shots is to mount the camera onto a slider. It is a simple tool that that lets you move your camera from left to right and vice versa. Using this camera move versus shooting a stationary view on a tripod can add interest and excitement to your shots.
Speaking of tripods, using one is a must! Nothing says amateur like handheld shaky video. I always keep a heavy-duty tripod in my gear bag to use for both stationary shots and simple pans. Tripods are great, but sometimes you need to follow your subject around. If this is the case, attach your camera to a handheld steadicam stabilizer, which lets you move around while reducing vibration and keeping footage nice and stable. There are many great tools out there worth researching that allow you to achieve different types of camera moves and higher production value.
Next, I have a few tips for those of you shooting video with cell phones. First, an important question- how do you hold your cell phone when you film a video? If the answer is vertical, like when you answer a phone call, simply turn your phone ninety degrees and film in landscape orientation. When you see black bars on either side of a video in Facebook feed or on your local news program, that is because someone was holding the camera vertically. In addition, do not to forget to treat your cell phone like any other camera.
Some people may feel a cell phone is not a serious filmmaking tool, but I think they are great, as the best camera is the one you have with you. I frequently use the iPhone 6s Plus to shoot 4K and 1080p 60fps slow motion clips. I highly recommend getting a mount to attach your cell phone to a tripod while following all of the guidelines mentioned in the previous paragraph. You can even get different lenses to attach to the case that vary the look of your video!
Now that you know how to create a great video don’t forget to get it out there and let people see it. You could start a YouTube channel, post it on social media, or upload it onto your website! It’s time to take your brand videos to the next level so get out there and make some great content!
